Mumbai: A major fire broke out in area near Manish market and Sahara Shopping Centre, a wholesale market near the Crawford market area in Mumbai late on Friday night. Sources say many shops have been gutted. They added that there have been no casualties as yet.

The fire began at 3 am quickly spread damaging property, which is estimated to be in crores.

Sources added that over 25 fire tenders were rushed to the scene, but they have been unable to control the flames so far.

BMC Commissioner Subodh Kumar said, "25 fire tenders have been sent to control the fire at the location. No injuries as of now. We are trying our best to control the fire."

Sources said the fire at Sahara shopping centre was brought under control but firefighters were still trying to douse the Manish Market fire.

Around 280 shops inside Manish Market have been damaged, adding those destroyed in Sahara shopping centre, an estimated 500 shops have been gutted in the fire.

Crawford market is one of Mumbai's oldest markets and the narrowness of the access road is proving to be a big hurdle for the firefighters.
